2026 Report: Indicators of Climate Change in California

The Indicators of Climate Change in California report documents changes in the state’s climate and their effects on the environment and human health. Indicators are scientific measurements used to track these changes over time. Together, they provide a broad picture of how California’s climate is changing and what those changes mean for the state.
The 2026 edition is organized into seven volumes, including 49 indicators and eight tribal reports. The report documents accelerating and compounding climate impacts across California's water systems, wildfires and public health, terrestrial ecosystems, and coastal and marine environments, with attention to disproportionate impacts on tribes, outdoor workers, and low-income households.
Tribal knowledge is integral to this report. Throughout, Tribal Connections draw on observations and lived experience shared by California Native American tribes, bringing forward changes that may extend beyond what instrumental records or quantitative data alone can capture. A dedicated volume honors tribal knowledge and perspectives in depth. Learn more: Indicators of Climate Change: Impacts on California Tribes.
