The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) recognizes the importance of safeguarding the privacy of an individual’s personal information. This policy describes OEHHA’s privacy practices regarding information collected and managed by OEHHA. This policy describes what information is collected and how that information is used.
OEHHA is committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals, as enumerated in Article 1 of the California Constitution, the Information Practices Act of 1977, and other state and federal laws. It is OEHHA’s policy to limit the collection and safeguard the privacy of personal information submitted to, collected by, or maintained by OEHHA. OEHHA’s information management practices conform to the requirements of the Information Practices Act (Civil Code section 1798 et seq.), the California Public Records Act (Government Code section 7920.000 et seq.), Government Code sections 11015.5 and 11019.9, and other applicable laws pertaining to information privacy.

Collection and Management of Personal Information
OEHHA adheres to the following principles in connection with the collection and management of any personal information obtained by OEHHA:
- OEHHA collects personal information on individuals only as allowed by law. Personal information, as defined in the Information Practices Act, is information that identifies or describes an individual including, but not limited to, name, Social Security Number, physical description, home address, home telephone number, education, financial matters, and medical or employment history.
- OEHHA limits the collection of Personal Information to what is relevant and necessary to accomplish its lawful purpose. OEHHA does not collect home, business or email addresses, or account information from individuals who simply browse our internet website. OEHHA collects personal information about individuals through our website if an individual provides such information to OEHHA voluntarily through our online services. OEHHA will not knowingly collect, use, or distribute personal information from children under the age of 13 without prior verifiable consent from a parent or guardian.
- At the time of collection, we tell individuals who provide personal information about the specific uses for which we will use that information. A privacy notice is also provided on or with the form or webpage portal used to collect personal information. For example, OEHHA may need to know an individual’s e-mail address or telephone number to answer the individual’s questions or to provide requested assistance.
- No personal information will be disclosed, made available, or otherwise used for purposes other than those specified without consent, unless authorized by law or regulation. OEHHA may share your personal information and other data with contracted service providers and other state and/or local agencies who support or oversee OEHHA programs, or where the transfer is necessary for the transferee-agency to perform its Constitutional or statutory duties and the use is compatible with a purpose for which the information was collected, and the use or transfer is accounted for in accordance with CA Civil Code § 1798.25. OEHHA may also share personal information about individuals with other government agencies for general law enforcement purposes.
- OEHHA takes reasonable precautions to protect the personal information collected or maintained by OEHHA against loss, unauthorized access, illegal use, modification, or disclosure. OEHHA provides Secure Socket Layer (SSL) /Transport Layer Security (TSL) encryption to protect the security of individuals’ personal information during transmission of such information through OEHHA’s website. OEHHA’s staff are trained on the procedures for the management of personal information, including the limitations to the release of information.
- OEHHA collects personal information about individuals through our website if an individual provides such information to OEHHA voluntarily through our online services, such as sending an email or submitting forms. We may use your personal information to contact you with information that may be of concern to you. You may opt out of receiving any, or all, of the communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or instructions provided in the email we send or by contacting OEHHA’s Privacy Officer at the contact information provided below.
- Submission of an email or form to OEHHA or OEHHA personnel, or communication through the website does not create any attorney-client or other privileged or confidential relationship. Accordingly, do not disclose any information to OEHHA that you wish to remain private or confidential.
Automatically Collected Electronic Information
- OEHHA collects personal information from you when you browse OEHHA’s website. Information about your visit to the website is automatically collected via Google Analytics to help OEHHA analyze and improve content of the website. The information that OEHHA may collect includes:
- The internet protocol (IP) address of the machine used to access our website.
- The type of browser and operating system used.
- The date and time when the website is visited
- The web pages displayed
- Any forms that are downloaded.
- The electronic information we automatically collect (using cookies), or store is maintained for gathering website statistics to help in perpetuity to analyze our website to continually improve the value of the materials available. OEHHA’s website logs do not identify a visitor by Personal Information, and OEHHA makes no attempt to link other websites with the individuals that browse OEHHA’s website.
- If you voluntarily participate in an activity that asks for specific electronic information (e.g., completing a request for assistance, personalizing the content of the website, sending an e-mail, or participating in a survey) more detailed data will be collected. If you choose not to participate in these activities, your choice will in no way affect your ability to use any other feature of the website.
- OEHHA uses cookies to collect or store personal information. You can prevent cookies from being placed on your computer by accessing your browser’s preferences menu and deleting existing cookies. - OEHHA will not distribute or sell any electronically collected personal information about you to any third party without your consent.
- Automatically collected electronic personal information is exempt from request made under the California Public Records Act. (Government Code section 7927.400 et seq.).

OEHHA’s privacy and security policies do not apply to third-party websites that may be accessible through links on our website. Please review the privacy policies and terms of use of these third-party sites. OEHHA does not control and is not responsible for the operation, content, privacy policies or the security of such linked sites.
Your Access Rights
You have the right to access any of your personal information maintained by OEHHA and to request correction of any inaccuracies in the information. Additionally, you have the right to request deletion of any of your electronically collected personal information maintained by OEHHA without additional use or distribution.
