his notice announces the beginning of a 45-day public comment period on seven chemicals. These chemicals will be discussed at a public meeting of the Proposition 65 Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2020. The meeting will be held virtually. 

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adopting new Reference Exposure Levels (RELs) for Toluene for use in the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program. RELs are airborne concentrations of a chemical that are not anticipated to result in adverse noncancer health effects for specified exposure durations in the general population, including sensitive subpopulations.

OEHHA is required to develop guidelines for conducting health risk assessments under the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program (Health and Safety Code Section 44360(b)(2)).  In implementing this requirement, OEHHA develops new IURs and revises existing IURs for many air pollutants.

Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment proposes to amend Title 27, California Code of Regulations, by adopting Section 25505 Exposures to Listed Chemicals in Cooked or Heat Processed Foods.

The updated Public Health Goal of 0.003 parts per billion (ppb) is based on carcinogenicity and is set at a level of risk of one additional cancer case per one million persons exposed over a 70-year lifetime.  

This rulemaking adds a new chapter and section to Title 27 of the California Code of Regulations: Chapter 3: Naturally Occurring Lead in Candy, section 28500. The new section  establishes a “naturally occurring level” of 0.02 ppm (parts per million) for lead in candies flavored with chili and/or tamarind.  Health and Safety Code Section 110552 required OEHHA to adopt this regulation.
