Notice to Interested Parties Chemicals Listed Effective December 24, 2021 As Known to the State of California to Cause Cancer: Perfluorooctane Sulfonic Acid (PFOS) and Its Salts and Transformation and Degradation Precursors

Effective December 24, 2021, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors to the list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer for purposes of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65[1]). At a public meeting on December 6, 2021, the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) in its official capacity as the “state’s qualified experts”[2] determined that perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors, were clearly shown by scientifically valid testing according to generally accepted principles, to cause cancer.
