Meeting Synopsis from the Carcinogen Identification Committee Meeting Held on December 6, 2021
A meeting of the Proposition 65[1] Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC)[2] was held via webcast and webinar on December 6, 2021. The main agenda item was committee consideration of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors as known to the state to cause cancer.

CONSIDERATION OF PFOS AND ITS SALTS AND TRANFORMATION AND DEGRADATION PRECURSORS
OEHHA staff gave a summary presentation on the hazard identification document on PFOS and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors, CIC members discussed the evidence and members of the public provided oral comments. After their deliberations, the CIC determined that PFOS and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors were clearly shown through scientifically valid testing according to generally accepted principles to cause cancer (8 yes, 2 no, 1 abstain). (These chemicals were therefore added to the Proposition 65 list of chemicals, effective December 24, 2021. The warning requirement for significant exposures to these chemicals will take effect on December 24, 2022.)
UPDATE OF THE TITLE 27, CAL. CODE OF REGULATIONS, SECTION 27000 LIST OF CHEMICALS WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY TESTED AS REQUIRED
The CIC voted unanimously to update the Cal., Code of Regs.,Title 27, section 27000 List of Chemicals Which Have Not Been Adequately Tested as Required, based on recommendations in the OEHHA staff report on this agenda item. That report included information provided to OEHHA by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and the US Environmental Protection Agency on chemicals that they no longer required to be tested.
STAFF UPDATES
OEHHA staff updated the CIC on activities since their last meeting (December 2020) related to chemical listings under Proposition 65, proposed or adopted of Safe Harbor Levels and other regulations, and Proposition 65 litigation.
