Chemicals listed effective October 29, 1999 as known to the state to cause cancer: Bis(2-chloromethylethyl)ether, technical grade, 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene, and estragole.

OEHHA announces a public workshop to discuss 12 draft technical support documents for Public Health Goals (PHGs) for chemicals in drinking water.  These chemicals are: aluminum, benzene, carbofuran, carbon tetrachloride, dichloromethane, diquat, nickel, simazine, tetrachloroethylene, thiobencarb, uranium, and vinyl chloride.

Public meeting on Thursday, October 7, 1999 of OEHHA's Cancer Identification Committee on criteria for identifying chemicals for listing as "Known To The State To Cause Cancer", consideration of chemicals known to cause cancer, and consideration of chemicals, listed via the Authoritative Bodies mechanism, for removal from the list.

OEHHA has provided a number of comments on the risk characterization methodology and conclusions on the draft RCD for N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET). These comments and our recommendations, as well as suggested clarifications, additions and corrections, are contained in this report.

The CalTrans Risk Asssessment Implementation Plan 1996 was  in response to Executive Order W-137-96 requiring the implementation of recommendations made by the Risk Assessment Advisory Committee (Committee) to improve the risk assessment process in all California state agencies, departments, boards and offices. The study included a detailed review of the Committee recommendations, selection of recommendations that apply to Caltrans’ programs, review of the current status of those programs in context with the recommendations and an implementation plan to make any needed improvements to the current Caltrans policies and procedures.

OEHHA released for public comment the toxicity summaries for the second set of 40 chemicals in the Air Toxics Hot Spots Program Risk Assessment Guidelines Part III: Technical Support Document for the Determination of Noncancer Chronic Reference Exposure Levels. 

OEHHA has prepared the draft hazard identification documents for fenbutatin oxide and quizalofop-ethyl and announces the availability of the draft documents entitled, "Evidence on the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity of Fenbutatin Oxide," and "Evidence on the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity of Quizalofop-Ethyl" for public comment.
