Occurrence/Use
Used to make certain plastics and epoxy resins. BPA-based plastic is made into a variety of common consumer goods, such as water bottles, sports equipment, CDs, and DVDs. Epoxy resins containing BPA are used as coatings on the inside of many food and beverage cans and in making thermal paper such as that used in sales receipts.
Comments
BPA was originally listed as causing reproductive toxicity on April 11, 2013 for the developmental toxicity endpoint, but subsequently delisted pending resolution of a court case. BPA was re-listed as causing reproductive toxicity on May 11, 2015 for the female reproductive toxicity endpoint. In 2020 the court case regarding the developmental toxicity endpoint was resolved and OEHHA reinstated the developmental toxicity endpoint on December 18, 2020.
