Hello, I am reaching out on behalf of Canal Alliance, a community-based organization that serves low-income, undocumented Latino immigrants in San Rafael, Marin County.
One of our team members attended the 5.0 Webinar moderated by Laura August. Thank you for that insightful rundown; we're very excited about the new indicators!
While testing out the new indicators for the neighborhood we serve (called Canal, located in Southeast San Rafael between Highway 101 and the San Rafael Creek) we noticed a new and very small census tract appeared (exciting!) in the center of the neighborhood. However, this new census tract shows data that may not be representative of its lived conditions.
For context, we submitted three screenshots that highlight our concerns. The first two represent how the new census tract is comparatively lighter both with the small toxic sites indicator and the diabetes indicator than the rest of the surrounding neighborhood. The third photo highlights how the neighborhood overall appeared in the 4.0 CalEnviroScreen when there were two census tracts to represent the Canal neighborhood.
We were just wondering if there is a way to verify the accuracy of the data within this specific census tract since it seems incongruent to both the surrounding neighborhood and our organizations' intimate understanding of the population. Thank you.
