Californians are exposed to acrolein everyday inside their car. Based on my latest work in collaboration with a mass spectrometer company, we found out that there is a significant amount of outgassing of acrolein from vehicle interior materials. The emission rates change as a function of cabin temperature, manufacturer, model, year, aging, and mileage. This needs to be investigated for the benefit of public health.
