Kannan Krishnan, Assistant Deputy Director for Scientific Programs

Kannan Krishnan, Ph.D.,has served since July 2024 as OEHHA’s Assistant Deputy Director in the Division of Scientific Programs.  In this role, he shares responsibilities with OEHHA’s Deputy Director of Scientific Programs, managing the division’s activities and conducting technical review of OEHHA’s scientific output.  

He first joined OEHHA in 2021 as Chief of the Air and Site Assessment and Climate Indicators Branch. Previously, he occupied scientific leadership and managerial roles at the University of Montreal, the Robert-Sauvé Research Institute for Occupational Health and Safety; and at Risk Sciences International in Ottawa.

Kannan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He has contributed to many panels and committees hosted by prestigious scientific entities such as the US National Academy of Sciences; the Society of Toxicology; the International Program on Chemical Safety; US EPA; and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Kannan received his Ph.D. in Community Health from the University of Montreal and completed his post-doctoral training at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.  He obtained his BS in Agriculture from Annamalai University in India, and MSc in Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry from McGill University.
