Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is a scientific process of evaluating the adverse effects caused by a substance, activity, lifestyle, or natural phenomenon. OEHHA is responsible for developing and providing risk managers in state and local government agencies with toxicological and medical information relevant to decisions involving public health. State agency users of such information include all boards and departments within Cal/EPA, as well as the Department of Public Health, the Department of Food and Agriculture, the Office of Emergency Services, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Department of Justice.

Jun 15, 2017: Hearing on Petition Requesting Adoption of Regulations Setting a "Naturally Occurring" Lead Level in Candy Containing Chili and Tamarind
The Center for Environmental Health is requesting that OEHHA “commence the regulatory process to issue regulations pursuant to Health & Safety Code §110552 setting a ‘naturally occurring’ lead level in candy containing chili and tamarind.”  A hearing has been scheduled for July 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Sierra Hearing Room at the CalEPA Headquarters building at 1001 I Street in Sacramento. The hearing agenda has been posted to our website.
Apr 3, 2017: 2017 Children’s Environmental Health Symposium
2017 Children's Environmental Health Symposium exploring "Environmental Justice and Children”. The symposium will be held April 26, 2017 and will examine the potential factors underlying children's unique vulnerabilities to the cumulative impacts of pollution and socioeconomic and community stressors.
