Staff Presentations for the Carcinogen Identification Committee Meeting Held on October 17, 2003

A meeting of the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) was held on October 17, 2003, at the California Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters Building in Sacramento, California. Below are the presentations made by staff of California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). The segments of the agenda covered by this material include the “Consideration of a Chemical Known to the State to Cause Cancer,” and “Consideration of Proposed Acrylamide Work Plan.”

The CIC determined that chloral hydrate had not been clearly shown to cause cancer; and therefore, chloral hydrate is not added to the Proposition 65 chemical list. In consideration of the proposed acrylamide work plan, the CIC received several public comments. For those commenters that made formal powerpoint presentations to the CIC, a link to a copy of their presentation is provided below. Because there is keen public interest in the CIC’s discussions of the proposed work plan, OEHHA has posted an excerpt from the meeting transcript including the CIC’s discussions. The complete meeting transcript is available from the court reporter, Ms. Phyllis Mank at (916) 451-2279.
