John R. Froines, Ph.D. Announces Resignation from Carcinogen Identification Committee
John R. Froines, Ph.D. has announced his resignation from the Carcinogen Identification Committee. Dr. Froines has been a member of the committee since its formation in 1994.
"During his tenure with the Proposition 65 program, Dr. Froines provided insightful guidance to the committee in its selection of carcinogens for the Proposition 65 list," said OEHHA Director Dr. Joan E. Denton. "He has made significant contributions to the Proposition 65 program and to the protection of public health in California."
In announcing his resignation, Dr. Froines stated a desire to focus on his other duties. He is a Professor at UCLA's School of Public Health, with expertise in toxicology and industrial hygiene. He is also the director of the school's Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and the co-director of the UCLA Pollution Prevention Education and Research Center. His research focuses on exposure assessment, toxicokinetic factors of chemical toxicity, and risk assessment.
In addition to filling administrative and teaching roles at UCLA, Dr. Froines currently serves as the Chairman of the Air Resources Board's Scientific Review Panel and is a member of the National Toxicology Program's Board of Scientific Counselors' Report on Carcinogens Subcommittee.
Note: An earlier version of this announcement erroneously stated that Dr. Froines was a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel prior to his appointment to the CIC. OEHHA regrets the error.
