Carcinogen Identification Committee Member, Dr. William L. Spangler, Resigns

Dr. William L. Spangler, the longest serving member of the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC), has submitted his resignation from the Committee. Dr. Spangler was a charter member of the initial Scientific Advisory Panel, appointed by Governor Deukmejian. He has served under four gubernatorial administrations, culminating 20 years of public service. He was most recently re-appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger. During Dr. Spangler’s tenure, he provided guidance in decisions made by the CIC to place more than 270 chemicals on the Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to the State to cause cancer. Dr. Spangler, who is an independent consultant in veterinary pathology, informed OEHHA that it was time for a change and that “it is important for the committee to maintain a fresh and diverse perspective.”
