November 21, 2013 Meeting of the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee

The DART IC meeting will be held on November 21, 2013 in the Coastal Hearing Room of the California Environmental Protection Agency headquarters building located at 1001 I Street, Sacramento beginning at 10:00 am and continuing until all business is conducted or 5:00 pm.

The Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DART IC) of OEHHA’s1 Science Advisory Board identifies chemicals for addition to the list of chemicals known to the State to cause reproductive toxicity (Health and Safety Code section 25249.8).  The Committee serves as the “state’s qualified experts” for determining whether a chemical has been clearly shown, through scientifically valid testing according to generally accepted principles, to cause reproductive toxicity.

A public meeting of the DART IC will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013.  On September 20, 2013, OEHHA released the hazard identification materials for the chemicals that will be reconsidered for listing at the November 21 meeting.  The meeting will be available via webcast.  The URL for the webcast (not active until the day and time of the meeting) is: http://calepa.ca.gov/Broadcast/.  On the day of the meeting, the link to the webcast will also be posted on the OEHHA web site. The following chemicals will remain on the Proposition 65 list as known to cause reproductive toxicity:

  • 2‑chloropropionic acid (male reproductive toxicity)
  • N,N’-dimethylacetamide (developmental and male reproductive toxicity)
  • 4-vinyl-cyclohexene (female reproductive toxicity)
  • vinyl cyclohexene dioxide (female reproductive toxicity)

The following chemicals will be removed from the Proposition 65 list as known to cause reproductive toxicity:

  • tert-amyl methyl ether
  • 2-ethylhexanoic acid
  • ethyl-tert-butyl ether
  • p,p’-oxybis(benzenesulfonyl hydrazide)
  • 1,3,5-triglycidyl-s-triazinetrione

COMMITTEE DISCUSSION ON HOW TO TABULATE DATA FROM EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDIES IN HAZARD IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS

The committee discussed a draft table for presenting data from epidemiology studies in hazard identification documents.

The Committee decided to give additional thought to how to tabulate epidemiologic data in hazard identification documents.  The Committee decided to discuss this further after the public has had an opportunity to comment and make suggestions on how to tabulate epidemiologic data, as well as on how to tabulate data from animal studies.

Comments from the Committee and the public on templates for tabulating epidemiology and animal data are due to OEHHA by Monday, December 23, 2013.  OEHHA will compile the comments and suggestions received, and prepare revised templates for presentation of the epidemiologic and animal data for discussion at a future Committee meeting.
