Availability of the Background Document for the Public Workshop on Developing Safe Harbor Numbers

The California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is the lead agency for the implementation of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65).

On September 22, 2000, OEHHA published a public notice in the California Regulatory Notice Register (Register 2000, No. 38-Z) announcing a public workshop to solicit input on the proposed process for developing safe harbor numbers. A background document discussing the safe harbor development process and the proposed selection process by which chemicals will be considered is currently available. Copies of the document are available from the Proposition 65 Implementation Office and may be requested by calling (916) 445-6900. The document is also available through the Internet in downloads section below. The document will serve as a basis for discussion at the public workshop scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2000 in Training Room B, Elihu Harris State Building, 1515 Clay Street, Oakland, California. The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will last until all business is conducted or until 5:00 p.m.

Questions concerning the workshop may be directed to Ms. Cynthia Oshita or Mr. Allan Hirsch at (916) 445-6900.
