It is quite reasonable to inform the public about increased risk of cancer and birth defects due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. However, it is more than unreasonable to hold producers liable for the failure of retailers to post signage to that effect. Manufacturers are prohibited from placing such warnings on alcoholic beverage labels by federal law. In what other type of business is it required that a producer be liable for the failure of those further down the supply chain to inform end users of the possible negative consequences of using that product when federal mandate prohibits such warnings be issued to the consumer by the manufacturer?
