Regulatory Update Project, Food Exposure Regulation - Stakeholder Workgroup Members

On April 1, 2008, OEHHA posted a notice requesting volunteers to participate in a workgroup for development of possible regulatory language addressing the methods of delivery and content of warnings for exposures to listed chemicals in foods. The response was overwhelming, with volunteers from diverse stakeholder groups offering to participate. However, for the group to be effective and work efficiently, OEHHA has to limit the number of direct participants.

The following stakeholder groups were selected to participate on the workgroup:

  • Food Retailers:
    • California Retailers Association (Pamela Boyd Williams or Jeff Margulies)
    • California Grocers Association (Kristen Power or Renee Wasserman)
    • Whole Foods Markets (Charles Ivie)
  • Food Manufacturers:
    • American Beverage Association and others (Gary Roberts)
    • Food and Beverage Manufacturers (Peter Weiner)
    • American Herbal Products Association (Michael McGuffin)
    • Grocery Manufacturers Association (Michele Corash or Robin Stafford)
  • Combined food growers, grocers and manufacturers:
    • Kahn, Soares & Conway LLP (Louie A. Brown)
  • Agriculture:

    • Western Plant Health Association (Renee Pinel)
  • Environmental/ Consumer Groups:
    • CLEEN (Pamela K. Palitz)
    • Consumer's Union (Jean Halloran or Dr. Michael Hansen or Dr. Urvashi Rangan)
  • Enforcement:
    • Environmental Law Foundation (Jim Wheaton)
    • Attorney General’s Office (Sue Fiering)
  • Department of Public Health:
    • Pete Baldridge
  • Department of Food And Agriculture:
    • TBD

All interested parties are encouraged to work through the designated stakeholder groups by communicating with them and providing comments as the development of a regulatory proposal proceeds. OEHHA at a future date will have a public workshop, as well as provide other opportunities for stakeholders and the public to give direct input throughout the regulatory process.

OEHHA anticipates that the first workgroup meeting will occur toward the end of May and work will continue over the summer.
