Meeting Synopsis

A meeting of the Proposition 651 Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DART IC) was held on March 18, 2013, at the California Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters Building in Sacramento, California. The Committee considered the listing of deltamethrin as known to the state to cause reproductive toxicity. A summary of the meeting is provided below.

Committee Chair, Dr. Ellen Gold disclosed that she had received a letter from McKenna Long & Aldridge on behalf of Bayer CropScience requesting additional time to make a presentation to the Committee. The request was for an allowance of up to one hour for three speakers. Dr. Gold agreed to provide 20 minutes to each speaker for a total of one hour. A copy of the letter was made available at the meeting.

Dr. Gold also disclosed that Bayer CropScience provided each of the committee members an opportunity to review several studies which had been summarized in the OEHHA document and written comments. Each of the members were required to sign an affirmation regarding the intended use of the information. Any member of the public may review these materials by sending a Public Records Act request to the Department of Pesticide Regulation at publicrecords@cdpr.com referencing “Deltamethrin guideline studies considered by the DART-IC” or by visiting the Department of Pesticide Regulation in the Cal/EPA building located at 1001 I Street in Sacramento.

SUMMARY OF THE LISTING DECISION FOR DELTAMETHRIN

Following staff presentations, public comments and committee discussions, the DART IC determined that deltamethrin had not been clearly shown to cause reproductive or developmental toxicity. The Committee voted 6 ‘no’ and 1 ‘yes’ for developmental toxicity; and 7 ‘no’ and 0 ‘yes’ for female reproductive toxicity; and 5 ‘no’ and 2 ‘yes’ for male reproductive toxicity.
