Extension of Comment Period - Carbon Black and Simvastatin: Notice of Intent to List

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) requires the Governor to publish, and update at least annually, a list of chemicals known to the State to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is the lead agency for the implementation of Proposition 65. On October 29, 1999, OEHHA published a notice in the California Regulatory Notice Register (Register 99, No. 44-Z) announcing its intent to list carbon black, pravastatin sodium and simvastatin under Proposition 65 in accordance with the regulatory criteria in Sections 12306 and 12902 of Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations. The publication of the notice initiated a 30-day public comment period which would have closed on November 29, 1999. [Note: Palygorskite fibers was also included in the October 29, 1999 notice and the close of its comment period will remain 5 p.m., November 29, 1999.] OEHHA has received requests from interested parties seeking an extension of the comment period to allow for the submittal of complete and relevant scientific information. OEHHA hereby extends the public comment period for these three chemicals to 5 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2000. Written comments provided in triplicate, along with supporting information, may be submitted to:
