Recommendations for safely eating fish from Ventura County's Lake Piru were developed by OEHHA for three fish species based on levels of mercury measured in fish sampled from Lake Piru.

Following the Refugio Beach oil spill incident in Santa Barbara County, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife implemented a fisheries closure.  Based on the following health evaluation, OEHHA recommended on June 29, 2015 that CDFW rescind the fishery closure order.
