Closure of the recreational Dungeness crab fishery south of the Mendocino/Sonoma county line has been lifted. Opening of the commercial Dungeness crab fishery is set for March 26 in the same region.

February 11, 2016: Dungeness Crab Health Advisory Lifted Along Central California Coast

The health advisory regarding Dungeness crabs caught along the coast has been lifted from state waters in all areas south of Latitude 38° 00' N, near Point Reyes.

February 2, 2016: Dungeness and Rock Crab Health Advisory Partially Lifted along the California Coast

The advisory remains in effect for state waters around Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel Islands and areas north of Latitude 35° 40' N due to continued elevated levels of domoic acid in crabs caught in those areas. Consumers should not eat Dungeness or rock crabs from those areas.
