May 10, 2024: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Title 27 California Code of Regulations, Section 25705 No Significant Risk Level for Titanium Dioxide

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment proposes to adopt a Proposition 65 No Significant Risk Level for titanium dioxide (airborne, unbound particles of respirable size) by amending Title 27, California Code of Regulations, section 25705(c)(2).

Apr 5, 2024: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Title 27, California Code of Regulations Safe Harbor Warnings for Acrylamide Exposure from Food

Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment proposes to amend Article 6 of Title 27 of the California Code of Regulations, section 25607.2. OEHHA is proposing a new safe harbor warning for significant exposures to acrylamide in food. This would be in addition to the applicable safe harbor warnings that already apply to such exposures under existing law. The warning content and methods provided in the safe harbor regulations are deemed “clear and reasonable” by OEHHA for purposes of the Act.

Mar 29, 2024: Overview of the February 2024 Meeting of the Carcinogen Identification Committee

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment convened a meeting of the CIC on February 27th, 2024. The meeting opened with a session on enzyme polymorphisms and susceptibility to carcinogenicity, including presentations from invited speakers and discussions with the Committee. The presentations and discussion will help inform future cancer hazard identification work at OEHHA. The Committee also discussed OEHHA’s proposal to streamline several sections of cancer hazard identification documents.

Mar 22, 2024: No Significant Risk Levels for Ethylene Oxide

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) decided to withdraw the proposed rulemaking intended to update the No Significant Risk Level for Ethylene Oxide.

Jan 23, 2024: Bisphenol S (BPS) Added to Proposition 65 List Following 2023 Meeting of the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee

Effective December 29, 2023, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has added bisphenol S (BPS) to the Proposition 65 list as a reproductive toxicant (female reproductive endpoint).

Jan 11, 2024: Notice of Intent to Amend Title 2, Section 54700 of the California Code Of Regulations - Conflict of Interest Code of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is proposing amendments to its conflict of interest code contained in the Title 2, Section 54700 of California Code of Regulations. OEHHA is taking this action is pursuant to the authority vested in it by section 87306 of the Government Code. A comment period has been established commencing on January 12, 2024, and closing on February 26, 2024.

Dec 27, 2023: Proposed Amendments to Regulations Clear and Reasonable Warnings, Safe Harbor Methods and Content California Code of Regulations

On December 13, 2023, a Public Hearing was held to hear public comments on proposed amendments to Title 27, California Code of Regulations, Sections 25601, 25602, 25603, and 25607.2 and adopt new Sections 25607.50, 25607.51, 25607.52, and 25607.53. The Hearing video and transcript are now available.

Nov 17, 2023: Chemicals Listed Effective November 17, 2023 as Known to the State of California to Cause Cancer: Coal-Tar Pitch, Fluoro-Edenite Fibrous Amphibole, and Silicon Carbide Whiskers

Effective November 17, 2023, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding coal-tar pitch, fluoro-edenite fibrous amphibole, and silicon carbide whiskers to the list of chemicals known to the State of California.

Oct 27, 2023: Proposition 65 No Significant Risk Levels (NSRLs) and Maximum Allowable Dose Levels (MADLs)

Safe harbor levels, which include No Significant Risk Levels (NSRLs) for cancer-causing chemicals and Maximum Allowable Dose Levels (MADLs) for chemicals causing reproductive toxicity.

Aug 11, 2023: Chemicals Listed Effective August 11, 2023 as Known to the State of California to Cause Cancer: Anthracene, 2-Bromopropane, and Dimethyl Hydrogen Phosphite

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) intends to list anthracene (CAS RN 120-12-7), 2‑bromopropane (CAS RN 75-26-3 [corrected as of June 27, 2023]), and dimethyl hydrogen phosphite (CAS RN 868-85-9) as known to the state to cause cancer.

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has selected vinyl acetate for the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC)’s review for possible listing under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment intends to list antimony (trivalent compounds) as known to the state to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

Apr 21, 2023: Chemicals Listed Effective April 21, 2023 as Known to the State of California to Cause Cancer: 1,1,1-Trichloroethane and Leucomalachite Green

Effective April 21, 2023, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is adding 1,1,1-trichloroethane and leucomalachite green to the list of chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer for purposes of Proposition 65.

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) intends to list 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (CAS RN 109-70-6), 1-butyl glycidyl ether (CAS RN 2426-08-6), and glycidyl methacrylate (CAS RN 106-91-2) as known to the state to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

Dec 23, 2022: Notice of Adoption Title 27, California Code of Regulations Article 5, New Section 25506 Exposures to Acrylamide in Cooked or Heat Processed Foods

The Office of Administrative Law approved the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s proposal to amend Title 27, California Code of Regulations by adopting Section 25506, originally proposed as Section 25505.
