California Environmental Contaminant Biomonitoring Program
June 14, 2011 Biomonitoring California Webinar on Manganese PBPK Modeling
[05/25/11]
Biomonitoring California will hold a webinar from 10 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The webinar will include a presentation and discussion on using physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling to understand how exposures to manganese relate to levels in the human body. More details on the webinar and how to register are provided below.
The Manganese Interest Group (MIG) submitted comments for the discussion of manganese as a potential designated chemical for Biomonitoring California at the program’s November 2010 Scientific Guidance Panel meeting. MIG’s comments included slides from Dr. Harvey Clewell, Director of the Center for Human Health Assessment at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences.
The Hamner Institutes developed a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model to explore the relationship between human tissue levels of manganese and intake of the metal through various routes such as the diet or environmental exposures in air. At the June 14 webinar, Dr. Clewell will give a presentation on:
“Application of PBPK modeling to evaluate data on human exposures to manganese, a toxic but essential metal.”
Members of the audience can submit questions via email to biomonitoring@oehha.ca.gov during the webinar. Questions will be read aloud after the presentation. To download the slides for the June 14 presentation, follow this link.
Space at the webinar is limited. Please register as soon as possible at this link: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/135421168.
